2019-04-25 Seniors Group Meeting – Orleans
Dear Friends, Greetings!
Last Meeting – April 18, 2019: About 20 members were present at the last meeting. Prabir Neogi gave a very interesting and stimulating talk on Jalliawala Bagh massacare in Amritsar (13 April 1919) and Chittagong uprising in West Bengal (16-18 April 1930). Prabir’s uncle, 14 years old at that time, was a participant in the uprising and was sentenced to Kala pani (Andaman Nicobar). Jayanti Roy read a letter from Rabindra Nath Tagore (August 1919) to the British Viceroy renouncing his knighthood in protest of British government’s brutal actions in Amritsar.
It was also noted that the official Indian history describing the freedom struggle basically ignores or downplays the role of Indian revolutionary freedom fighters in achieving the independence.
Amrita Shergill Self Portaraits Celebrations – April 20: A very enjoyable program featuring punjabi music and folk dances performed by Deepti Gupta and Ottawa punjabi community members (many seniors) – This programme was live streamed on facebook and is available for viewing through Arzoo Dance Theater or ICCC websites

Considerations for Food Choices:
While entering your contribution to the lunch, please take into account what other people have already indicated to ensure a good variety in the food. This is to ensure that we are not getting four rice dishes or as many desserts.
RSVP:
In order to assure that we have a balanced meal please indicate your wishes preferably by 5 PM on Wednesday. This will allow time for any adjustments in the menu that may be desirable. As always, if you decide at the last minute to come or bring any guest, please feel free, there is always enough food to go around.
Reducing Waste:
Everybody is requested to bring and use their own reusable dishes and take these back home for cleaning. We do have a limited supply of dishes for the guests.
Important upcoming Meetings:
