ICCC Communique #26

Dear Friends,

COVID-19 PANDEMIC CRISIS IN INDIA – An Appeal to Indo-Canadians to
Donate Generously

As most of you are aware, the recent 2nd wave of the Coronavirus has created a crisis in India. There is an urgent need for Oxygen supply, PPE, Vaccines, demand for hospital beds, etc. To supplement the demand, many international and Canadian organizations are collecting funds and equipment. The Canadian government has also promised $10 million to the Indian Red Cross to assist in this urgent need.

ICCC’s APPEAL FOR COVID-19 RELIEF FUNDS:
The Indo-Canadian Community Centre is committed to campaigning for the COVID-19 Relief Funds for India. We must all rise to give generously to ‘HELP HUMANITY’ against the ‘WRATH of CORONA.’ We urge you to help our brethren in India by making generous donations.

YOUR OPTIONS FOR MAKING DONATIONS:

  1. Through Indo-Canadian Community Centre: Send your donations to ICCC (e-transfer to treasurer@copy.icccottawa.org); ICCC will expeditiously remit all the collected funds to India via one or more CRA-approved charities. Our endeavor will be to channel donations incurring minimal overhead & administration charges. We have in the past sent funds to India through EKAL Canada, a pan-India charitable organization.
  2. A list of organizations through which Canadians can help is included in this article entitled “India’s COVID-19 crisis: As Feds pledge $10M, here’s how Canadians can help“: https://globalnews.ca/news/7812601/india-covid-crisis-canada-help/. This article states: “What can Canadians do? — As the federal government prepares to send funds and equipment to India, here is a list of organizations through which Canadians can help.”
  3. 12 different charities are listed on this Canadahelps.org web page entitled “Support COVID-19 Relief Efforts in India” (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/donate-to-covid-19-in-india-crisis/). It states: “Support these charities providing urgent aid in India and give today. Give to charities providing urgent medical aid to those in need. You can help provide oxygen, personal protective equipment, emergency medical supplies, and more to those in need.”
  4. Ekal Foundation Canada (https://ekal.ca/2020/04/02/cloth-masks-to-help-fight-against-covid-19/) is supporting making of cloth masks to help fight against COVID-19 in the villages; they are distributing masks free of cost to Govt Primary Health Centres and Govt Hospitals and to Ekal volunteers engaged in awareness campaigns. Please donate to Ekal Canada.

Please note that all donations received by ICCC directly will be expeditiously sent in full amount (100%) to enable organizations in India deal with the Covid-19 crisis.
ICCC will greatly appreciate knowing how you have donated with this Appeal for your generous donation (please send an email to covid19india@copy.icccottawa.org).
