Some of you joined the Ekal movement in 2006 when our total donations received amounted to about $20K. With the hard work and dedication of all of you we have come a long way. Now we have chapters in most of the major cities of Canada.
Ekal worldwide organization has covered important milestones since its inception with more than 100,000 Ekal schools and enrollment of about 2.8 million children. There are about 650,000 villages in India, and Ekal has its presence in more than 100,000 villages with population of about 100 million people. Even PM Modi has acknowledged Ekal’s contribution towards the all round welfare of remote Indian villages.
This year, we had planned very ambitious programs to meet our objectives, notably Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham performances at a number of Ekal chapters; EYPA meeting with Dr. James Orbinski as the keynote speaker. Dr. Orbinski is the recipient of Nobel prize; Youth Picnic. Instead, we had two successful Virtual live performances. The scenario has changed, and we have to change our plans. Ekal field activities in India are suspended temporarily and the resources have been diverted to fight COVID-19. India’s health minister, Shri Harsh Vardhan has recognized Ekal’s contribution towards the fight against the virus.
We need your continued support to meet the objectives of Ekal Canada which are – Create awareness about the tribal and remote villages of India, Raise funds and be part of the Local community. This is the ‘job description’ of every member of Ekal Canada.
