Re. ICCC COVID-19 Relief Fund

Dear Mr. Kluke,

Indo-Canadian Community Centre, Inc., Ottawa (ICCC), a non-profit charitable community organization, has over the years undertaken numerous fund-raising initiatives to fulfill its objective of Charity & Philanthropy for local, national and international causes.

This year, the ICCC launched an “ICCC COVID-19 Relief Fund” in the spirit of “Giving Back to the Community” through both monetary and in-kind donations to meet the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund-raising campaign is to support the following local organizations:

  1. The Ottawa Hospital
  2. Shepherds of Good Hope
  3. Ottawa Food Bank
  4. The Ottawa Mission

ICCC is thankful to its Life Members and the members of the Indo-Canadian community at large―individuals and associations―for their generous contributions in cash and in-kind. To-date, the “ICCC COVID-19 Relief Fund” initiative has elicited over $62,000 in donations and several “in-kind” contributions. ICCC has a commitment to direct 100% of the donations received to the charitable cause or organization, chosen by the donors.

Annex “A” attached details the donations directed to your organization – “The Ottawa Hospital Foundation”. It includes:

a) Direct Donations — made for the COVID-19 cause

Directly to your organization by the Indo-Canadian donors (they have informed the ICCC);

b) Indirect Donations (cheque enclosed) ― channelled through ICCC for your organization.

c) In-kind contributions — made by some of the community members, affiliated with ICCC.

ICCC has been informed that its donations for the COVID-19 pandemic cause will be matched one-for-one dollar)

Going forward, ICCC would be pleased to discuss with you mutually beneficial future collaborations for its “Charity & Philanthropy” program.

As first steps, ICCC hopes that:

  • The Ottawa Hospital Foundation would acknowledge the specific donors for their contribution, and
  • The Ottawa Hospital Foundation will provide ICCC, if it is practical, the total amount of donations received from the Indo-Canadian community (individuals & groups). ICCC’s compilation of the donations made by the Indo-Canadian community will be helpful in its ongoing fund-raising promotions throughout the community.

At ICCC, we are very much aware that “Giving Back to the Community” is a cherished value of our rich Indian heritage. We look forward to continuing an ongoing fund-raising effort to support the organization – The Ottawa Hospital Foundation.

Sincerely,

For and on behalf of the Indo-Canadian Community Centre

Kanwal (Ken) Talwar
