Mrs. Srishta Khosla completed her Bachelor of Arts at Ludhiana. At the age of 19, she got married and was unable to continue with her studies further.
After marriage she moved to Nairobi (Kenya) and lived there for about 26 years, and she worked various jobs in Africa. She worked in Barclay’s bank for 5 years and then she also taught in a school for 4 years. Mrs. Srishta Khosla also worked as an accountant with Air India at Nairobi airport as a cashier.
She first sent her eldest son to Canada for higher education and then the entire family moved to Canada in 1985. After moving to Canada, she remained a homemaker and spent most of her time with her family babysitting her grandchildren. She is a very God fearing and spiritual kind of person and has a passion for volunteering.
She has been running a crocheting and knitting group at her home and has been giving knitted products to retirement homes and CHEO. She is doing all kinds of work as a volunteer at Vishwa Shakti Durga Mandir. She loves signing Bhajans (Religious songs) and does a lot of art & craft work. She is living alone and to avoid her isolation, she made a strict schedule for herself including doing yoga on daily basis. She is also working as a volunteer coordinator of ICCC seniors’ group at the Vishwa Shakti Durga Mandir premises.
She did not face any specific challenges except adapting to the new Canadian culture and over time, she got over it.
She advises new immigrants that hard work is the key to success and advises the younger generation not to forget their own culture.
